Medical Assisting

  • Program Description

    This program can be taken as part of the 936 hour Medical Office/Medical Assisting program.

    The program consists of:

    • 80 hours Certified Nursing Assistant
    • 150 hours Phlebotomy
    • 106 hours Telemetry (EKG) Technician

    Credential Potential

    Completers of this program will be prepared to sit for the following certifications: State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA), Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT), and Certified EKG Technician (CET).

    Program Courses:

    Certified Nursing Assistant

    Certified Nursing Assistant, 80 Hours

    This course offers an approved curriculum centered on the long-term care and home health setting.

    Completers are qualified to take the state certification exam. Includes 16 hours of clinical; additional fees include uniforms. Clinicals are held off site; students are responsible for transportation.

    This course stands alone as a program or as part of the the 936 hour Medical Office/Medical Assisting program.

    Availability of programs and courses are dependent on enrollment and the approval of administration.

    Phlebotomy

    Phlebotomy,150 Hours

    Completers of the program can seek employment in local hospitals, physician’s offices, private laboratories, insurance companies, or draw blood from nursing home clients for private laboratories.

    Students completing the program are eligible to take the Board Exam for Certification by the National Health Career Association.

    150 hours (includes 72 clinical hours); additional fees include certification exam, uniforms, books, Hepatitis B & TB test. Clinicals are off site; students are responsible for transportation.

    This course stands alone as a program or can be taken as part of the 336 hour Medical Assisting program or the 936 hour Medical Office/Medical Assisting program.

    Telemetry Tech

    Telemetry Technician, 106 Hours

    Course description and title of this course is in transition and not yet available. It will still be 106 hours but will be updated in response to changing health care standards.

    This course can be taken separately or can be taken as part of the 336 hour Medical Assisting program or the 936 hour Medical Office/Medical Assisting program.

    Admission

    Enrollment starts in January and continues through March. WorkKey testing is required and will be scheduled by the school. Click here for more info.

    Upon entrance to the program the following will be required: a BCI and FBI background check and a drug screen must be taken (a felony or positive drug screen can prevent the student from continuing in the program).
