On May 12, 2010, the Buckeye Hills Career Center’s National Honor Society welcomed the new members during the Spring Induction Ceremony and acknowledged the current member, Britney Hunt.
Britney completed the Diversified Health Occupations Program in her junior year. She is a State-tested Nurse’s Aide, and has received her First Aid/CPR certification, the epinephrine pen and asthma certification, and the 10-hour OSHA certification. As a member of SkillsUSA, she competed and earned gold in the nurse aide local and regional contests in the 2009 competitions. She then competed at the State Level. She was also on the team for Chapter Display Competition in 2009. She has volunteered at the Gallipolis Development Center (GDC), Guiding Hand School, Holzer Assisted Living and the Gallia County Senior Citizens’ Center, as well as in many health fairs.
In 2010, Britney continued in SkillsUSA as an officer, competed at state level in the health knowledge bowl, and continued volunteering. She completed the EMT program as well as phlebotomy. On her 18th birthday, she will be awarded the Phlebotomist and Emergency Medical Technician certifications.
Britney has been accepted at Hocking College in the Honors Nursing program so that she can pursue her goal of becoming a nurse. She graduated with six (6) credit hours in Composition I and Composition II earned through a partnership between the Buckeye Hills Career Center and the University of Rio Grande.
Brandi Hunt is a junior in the auto collision technology program. She is the daughter of Tracy and David Hunt. Being selected as a Buckeye Backer by her instructors, she has volunteered to give tours to visitors on our campus and to represent the school at the advisory committee dinner. As a SkillsUSA member, she has been involved in several community service projects, worked as part of the team competing at State level in Entrepreneurship, and represented the school at regional and state levels as our Regional Treasurer. She was also a state officer candidate in April.
Jasmine Bales is enrolled in the health academy in the Diversified Health Occupations program. She is the daughter of Debra and Michael Bales. Jasmine was also chosen to serve as a Buckeye Backer, building and maintaining relationships between the current classes and the visiting sophomore classes. She has volunteered in various events including SkillsUSA drives and volunteer activities for Guiding Hand School, the Gallipolis Development Center, the Gallia County Senior Citizens’ Center, and Holzer Assisted Living. Jasmine always displays a positive attitude, determination, and excellent organization in all tasks she takes on.
Lindsey Watson is a senior in the administrative office assistant program. She is the daughter of Cathy Channel. Lindsey is also a Buckeye Backer who has given many tours across campus. She has also represented the Buckeye Hills Career Center through the Business Professionals of America. Lindsey is mindful of her academic studies and is always willing to lend a hand to help others in her academic classes.
Levi Amerine is a senior in the Ag/Diesel program. He is the son of Brian and Carol Amerine. Being a leader sometimes means that one must take a chance and explore the unknown. Levi enrolled in deckhand training, an opportunity new this year to the Buckeye Hills Career Center in conjunction with American Electric Power. At this time, Levi has begun his career with AEP through the early placement program. In order to qualify for early placement, one must have exemplary attendance, grades, and behavior.
This year, the Chapter collected bottle caps for chemotherapy treatments and developed kits for Marigolds for Moms in conjunction with the Child Care program. Next year, the Chapter will be visiting elementary schools with our Go Green Science Day activities.
