The Award Winning Buckeye Hills Career Center is proud to announce that 25 students placed in the SkillsUSA South Central Competitions. These competitions were held at the Delaware Area Career Center in Delaware, OH. Students competed in Technical Skills events as well as leadership events.
Students first had to win the local competitions that were held on the Buckeye Hills campus during the month of February. Over 200 students competed for the right to represent their class and school in Delaware.
There were 15 schools and 325 competitors vying for the top three positions in each contest. The Award Winning Buckeye Hills Career Center brought home medals in 12 out of 27 competitions. Students medaled in the following contests: Architectural Drafting (2nd) Justin Kiser; Basic Health Care (2nd) Kelsey Moore; Computer Maintenance (3rd) Nathan Wallace; Health Knowledge Bowl (1st) Britney Hunt, Janelle Parsons, Carlee Culp, and Elisa Tribble; Job Skill Demo A (3rd) Brandi Corder; Job Skill Demo Open (1st) Michelle Neaves; Medical Math (2nd) Jessica Ryan; Nail Care (1st) Taylor Campbell; Nursing Assisting (2nd) Sarah Denney; Opening & Closing (3rd) Shelbie Boyd, Renea Leach, Katie Lowry, Braden Carpenter, Bryce Hively, Scott Donley, Gabrielle Smith; Promotional Bulletin Board (2nd) Aleesha Hoskins, Kelsey Moore, Cara Nickel; Team Works (3rd) Casey Adkins, Trevor Bryan, Cody McCain, Jared Wilbur.
The winners will travel with other students from the school to represent The Award Winning Buckeye Hills Career Center at the Skills Ohio Championships in Columbus on April 23 and 24, 2010. Buckeye Hills Career Center will be sending approximately 60 students to compete against students from all over Ohio. These students will battle for the right to represent Ohio at the National Competitions held in Kansas City.
SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers and industry representatives working together to ensure America has a skilled work force. It helps each student excel. It also is a national nonprofit organization serving teachers and high school and college students who are preparing for careers in trade, technical and skilled service occupations, including health occupations. It was formerly known as VICA (Vocational Industrial Clubs of America).
