The Award Winning Buckeye Hills Career Center is proud to announce that Brandi Hunt has been elected Regional Treasurer for SkillsUSA. Miss Hunt is a junior enrolled in the Auto Collision Technology program.
SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers and industry representatives, working together to ensure America has a skilled work force. It helps each student excel. It also is a national nonprofit organization serving teachers and high school and college students who are preparing for careers in trade, technical and skilled service occupations, including health occupations. It was formerly known as VICA (Vocational Industrial Clubs of America).
Miss Hunt ran against 28 officer candidates vying for seven coveted positions in the South Central Region. There are six regions in Ohio with each region having seven officers. Officer candidates had to go through preliminary rounds and give a two minute speech. After the first round of voting the top two finalists were announced and Miss Hunt was in the final round. There she had to answer an impromptu question. The question was; “If elected you will travel to Washington D.C. where you will be able to meet with members of Congress. What would you tell your Congressman about the opportunities that SkillsUSA has given you?”
She will travel to Washington D.C. and Leesburg, VA, along with the other 41 officers to undertake the organizations leadership training for Regional Officers. While there she will spend time in the headquarters of the organization in Leesburg, as well as, traveling to Washington D.C. to meet with her Congressman and/or Senator.
